Wedding Hair Styles -- Choosing a hairstyle that is perfect for your wedding day is not a chore
but can become a worry. Why? It's one of the most important days in your
life, and you may be afraid that it will be a hair disaster. Consider
having a professional consultation with a stylist you can trust. Start
to keep a file of pictures and notes that come to mind of a period of
time that you have and like. Share these with your stylist months before
to decide upon the best hairstyle for your wedding day.
Ixchel is available for Off-Site bridal hair styling and make-up or at Alex Emilio Salon for wedding hair styling and wedding make-up applications.
MOST IMPORTANT:
The Pre-Wedding Hairstyle Trial
Always have a trial well in advance of your wedding. This will not only add
a piece of mind but will also identify any other items that may need to be
addressed. Remember this is your wedding, and there is no second chance for
a first impression! I usually visit or have my brides come to the salon a
minimum of 2 month before their wedding day. We may discover that your hair
may need to grow longer for your desired style. At that time we can decide
if another pre-wedding hairstyle trial is needed a week or so before the
actual day.
Remember these Important Tips:
1. Have a trial run with your stylist as soon as your wedding date
is set. If possible, take along a photo of your dress, and any headpiece
or hair accessories.
2. Find out if you need to grow your hair length, improve the condition
with conditioning treatments, alter the color or add some highlights and
lowlights.
3. NEVER shampoo or condition your hair on the day of the wedding!
4. On the day of the wedding make sure the bridal party wears button or
zip-up clothes. No crew neck, turtle necks or pull-over clothing. This
will ensure that they won't mess up their finished style when they change
into their dresses.
Gather Samples & Ideas
Start collecting some pictures from magazines and off the internet. Be realistic
- is your hair straight / thick / long enough for the style you like? Select
several photos to show your stylist months before your wedding. Ask them
to try each style out on your hair. Be open to new ideas and any advice they
gives you.
Up-do or Down-do? Who-do?
Try to choose a style that will suit your face shape - round faces suit high "up-do's" and
slick long styles while long faces suit finished looks that have width and
volume. Would you be comfortable with all your hair pulled away from your face?
Consider having some hair up and some down, or leaving wispy bits around you
face to soften. If you have a low-cut or off-the-shoulder dress will you feel
comfortable while still having some flesh exposed?

Curly Hairstyle or
Straight Hairstyle?
Upon the decision to wear you hair up or down, your possibilities
are endless. Curls are soft and romantic, as are pleats, twists, plaits
and variations to a bun. Maybe you prefer a more contemporary style
consisting of spikes and twists. Talk top your stylist and they will
be able to reflect your personality in your bridal hairdo. Trust them,
and don't try a second hand decision or idea. Remember you have your
wedding photos 20 years from now and may enjoy a few laughs then.
Veils & Tiaras
These should not hide your hairstyle but compliment it. If
you have chosen a large floor-length veil, your hairstyle needs to
be sturdy enough to hold the shape until you take the veil off. Try
some different placements on your head. Veils may look better sitting
at the back of the head under a mass of curls or a bun. Never wear
your hair longer that the veil. Remember the 20 year laugh.
Flowers, Hair Jewels & Hair Beads
These are all very popular and can tie in nicely if designed
in as a compliment to your style. They should not be the focal point.
Remember that your face is the focal point and everything else should
be designeed in with your stylist to compliment it. Pins
and hair-grips with sparkling gems scattered on the tops and ends have
a stunning effect. Small flowers can be scattered amongst curls or
wired to a comb to flatter a French pleat. A single orchid placed in
the right position can add the emotion of beauty.
